Want to add interest to your bedroom? Enter: textured walls. Think limewash paint, wood panelling and more…
Having different textures in the bedroom helps create a warm and inviting feeling. With this trend on the rise, I even tried out the DIY textured wall art, to add a bit of intrigue to my bare, white walls. And let me tell you, it’s not as easy as it looks.
From real or faux concrete and limewash paint to fluting and exposed bricks, there are plenty of options to choose from. Let’s take a look…
Limewash walls
One modern way of adding texture to your walls is through paint. Limewashing is a painting technique that offers a cloudy or mottled finish on your walls. And while traditional methods used lime putty, these days you can achieve a similar look using microcement, tadelakt or by dabbing your favourite shade of paint on with a wet sponge.
Not only is this look practical, it’s also gorgeous in its simplicity. And, even though it doesn’t draw too much attention, it can simply elevate any wall.
Concrete-inspired walls
Do you love the look of concrete or microcement but don’t have much time, or budget, to spend on a project? Fear not – there is a clever way of getting the look. Say hello to concrete-effect wallpaper. The latest designs can help you recreate the look without breaking the bank.
The easiest way to introduce concrete-effect wallpaper in your bedroom is to go for an industrial-style scheme. Pair it with reclaimed materials, black accents and statement hardware.
Or why not match your bold wallpaper with modern furniture, sumptuous materials and polished metallic accents for a sophisticated look?
Wall panelling
From traditional wall panelling to modern geometric designs, you are all set to find a technique to match your taste and style. Wall panelling is versatile. For example, you can either go full-height, on half the wall, or create a statement feature. Plus, you can easily paint it to match the rest of your walls and achieve a cosy and warm feeling – time to get creative.

Fluting
Fluting is everywhere at the moment – from kitchen islands to brassware. However, there’s a stylish way of adding fluting to your bedroom. Why not use fluted panels to replace the headboard and create a feature wall? This design trick can come with sound proofing benefits – if you, like me, live in a block of flats, the extra barrier can be very helpful for ensuring you get a restful night’s sleep.
Exposed brick
When I think of exposed brick, I picture an industrial-style New York loft. Hands up – do you love this aesthetic? Well, if you’re not planning a renovation anytime soon, you can still nail the look. Opt for rustic, brick-effect tiles and choose contrasting grout to add dimension. Sorted!
