Avocado green bathrooms: how to nail the trend

Avocado green bathrooms

Have you heard? Avocado bathrooms are back! We take a look at the ‘greenest’ trend of the year and reveal how to incorporate it into your home…

We like to think we were the first to clock green bathrooms were taking over. This summer, we collated some of our favourite designs in an inspiration gallery brimming with ideas; not just in the shade of the fashionable fatty fruit. Forest green, mint, olive – all popular choices. Especially as biophilic décor was a key design trend in 2024 (and it will stay very much on trend this year, too).

However, we predict that this year will really see the return of the avocado green. Particularly popular in the 1970s, this hue teased us with making a comeback a couple of years ago, but now we think it’s returning with a bang – covering everything from baths and basins to tiles and accessories.

“We no longer wish to have stark, white sanitaryware that jars with the colour scheme,” says Barrie Cutchie, design director at BC Designs. “From dark emerald to soft sage green, we are seeing the avocado shade everywhere – from walls to bathroom floors, to furniture and sanitaryware. It can be paired with just about every other colour, too, including taupe, reds and pinks. Add in the desire for freestanding baths and it is a winning combination.”

Barrie advises combining splashes of this tone with wood and stone for a rustic space. And if you’re after a more contemporary design instead, you can inject it into playful, striped wallpapers or veined marble tiles for a statement look.
