Blue bathroom ideas: from bright pastels to dark navy
Posted on 3rd October 2024
Stuck on which hue to pick for your new bathroom? Soothing, sumptuous and serene, blue is one of the most popular shades for injecting colour into your space.
Drawing inspiration from nature, this shade is often associated with calmness. “Blue is a classic choice for the bathroom with its connotations of sky and sea. Blue is also a soothing colour, making it ideal for bathrooms where you want to relax and unwind,” says Jamie Bebbington, managing director at Aston Matthews.
Its various undertones make it the perfect choice for designing anything from a modern ensuite or a quirky family bathroom to an escapist retreat. For example, a pale, retro blue can act as a nod to the style, explains Lewis Neathey, leader, product management at Lixil Emena and Grohe UK. “Its counter-part will be deep, navy-purples that feel comforting and secure. Dark, cosseting bathrooms filled with deep tones are growing in popularity as homeowners seek to create a space for true relaxation and escapism,” he says.

Blue can be used in both big and small doses – from drenching an entire wetroom in this hue (ceiling included) to adding subtle pops throughout your bathroom such as storage units, sanitaryware or accessories. “If you’re unsure of going all-in with a blue bathroom then consider adding a navy or royal blue vanity unit that can create a focal point, then pair this with brass, gold hardware or taps for a sophisticated and elegant touch,” advises Shamila Iqbal, director at Bathroom Mountain.
What’s more, these days, everything from tiles, wallpaper and paint to furniture, sanitaryware, and soft furnishings are available in this serene shade. So, if you’re keen to welcome this colour into your bathroom, we’ve collated an inspiration gallery to get your moodboard going and show you what’s possible…
