Burnished metallics are gaining popularity. So why not go for the industrial look in your bathroom with the help of gunmetal designs?
Whether you’re looking to update all your bathroom fittings or want to add a touch of warmth to your space, gunmetal brassware is a great choice. Just picture shower systems with a dark metallic sheen, brushed basin taps, and polished bath fillers.
But why go for this type of finish? Well, if you’re not ready to commit to black fittings, for example, then this lighter metallic coating is the way to go. “Gunmetal is a dark finish which makes the same bold statement as having black taps but with a warmer depth of tone,” explains Jamie Bebbington, managing director at Aston Matthews. Plus, if you’re keen on industrial style, it’s the perfect choice for a bathroom refresh.
How to include gunmetal finishes in your bathroom
Burnished metallics are ideal for achieving an industrial-style look. “If you’re planning on channelling an industrial theme in your space, there’s no better option than striking gunmetal,” says Lily Hellwig, bathroom product manager at MKM. Pair your new burnished steel bathroom fittings with concrete basins, steel-framed mirrors, and dark grey tiles and you’ll have nailed the look.
Jeevan Seth, founder of JTP, suggests that the rise in popularity of gunmetal finishes could be attributed to the current trend of incorporating urban-inspired design elements in the home. “Bathrooms are a great way to incorporate this coloured finish,” he advises. “We would recommend creating a cohesive gunmetal aesthetic for a truly urban look.”
And gunmetal is a highly versatile finish. It suits a wide range of bathroom styles – think dark and moody, modern-rustic, or light and elegant. Plus, it also works well with different bathroom fixtures shapes, from round and square to organic forms.
You can incorporate this dark bronze finish within any colour theme, from light neutrals to deep blues and greens. “As well as adding a touch of sophistication, gunmetal finishes tend to be versatile and are complementary to a wide range of colours,” adds Jeevan.
And when it comes to accessories, gunmetal complements a myriad of materials, textures and decorative fabrics. So get your shopping cart ready – we’ve rounded up some of our favourite gunmetal bathroom fittings…
