Bathroom trends for 2023

Are you in the midst of planning your new bathroom or looking for fresh ideas to inspire your space? Then, you’ve come to the right place – we’re predicting and exploring the looks and trends we think are going to be big in 2023.

From textured tiles that enhance your showering experience to bronze brassware for a touch of warmth, let’s take a look at the latest trends for bathrooms…

Lived-in bathrooms

The bathroom is no longer just for washing, but a room where you can spend precious quality time to feel invigorated. But where do you start when designing a cosy space? The secret sits in the small – but key – details. One of the latest trends for bathrooms, which immediately caught my attention, is the way our bathrooms have started to look more like living spaces rather than the typical washroom.

“Add pops of colour and texture throughout, in a bid to move away from the typical all white and clinical feel that bathrooms tend to have,” suggests Antonia Baier, senior product manager Premium & Mainstream Bathroom and Wellness at Villeroy & Boch.

Accessorise your space with stylish rugs that add an extra layer of comfort whenever you step out of the bath or shower. Section off a sitting area where you can indulge in your morning and evening rituals with help from vibrant armchairs and footstools, tactile cushions and side tables.

Then, use cluster pendants for a homely feeling. But make sure they have IP44 ratings, or place them far enough away from splashes and main water sources.

Finally, small décor pieces such as vases, art on the walls, and house plants make the perfect finishing touches.

Textured tiles

Next on the list of the latest trends for bathrooms you need to know about: tactile tiles. “We have seen a big increase for unusual textures and patterns designed to make bold feature walls and floors,” reveals Amanda Telford, marketing manager at CTD Tiles.

There is a variety of materials to choose from. Think terracotta, porcelain, and ceramic. But the best part is that the latest designs are adorned with textured finishes, from fluted fronts to rough and grainy styles. Pretty!

Nature Bone tile 500x500mm, £55.99 per sq m; Nature Bone tile 690x240mm, £49.99 per sq m; Nature Concept Bone tile 690x240mm £49.99 per sq m, and Nature Bone mosaic tile 330x330mm, £21.98 per sheet, all CTD.

To achieve a standout scheme, mix and match different colours, sizes and laying patterns. But remember, your shower tiles need to have anti-slip properties for safety. Plus, if you don’t enjoy spending time scrubbing, then why not buy durable designs that require minimal maintenance?

For example, Amanda says wood-effect tiles or those that mimic real stone are popular choices when experimenting with decorating ideas, rather than choosing the real thing – you get the look but without the upkeep. And that’s something that I like to hear.

Bronze brassware

Move over matt black, gold, polished chrome or gunmetal, and embrace warm bronze. While this finish has been popular for a few years, as it works well in both timeless and contemporary schemes, I’ve been spotting it even more now.

So, why not select a monobloc tap in a golden brass tone with fluted levers, perfect for a modern look? Or go for a traditional model in a deeper shade, which oozes a moody feeling.

Jeevan Seth, chief executive officer at JTP, suggests going one step further for an on-trend aesthetic: “By opting for brassware, radiators and accessories in a matching warm finish, you can easily achieve a level of cohesion throughout.”

In conclusion, the latest trends for bathrooms are set to elevate your style – whether you choose to only introduce bronze brassware or go all-out on all three popular features.

Although influenced by trending finishes, textures, and styles, these ideas also blend well within classic or timeless schemes. You just have to play around, find the right designs and let your creative juices flow.
