Bathroom trends 2024 to keep on your radar

From warm and vibrant terracotta shades and irregular, charming zellige tiles to playfully decorated walls and floors, the bathroom trends for 2024 have got me excited. Expect bathrooms to become practical yet personal and grounding spaces, brimming with colour and texture.

If you are looking for inspiration for your new project, you’re in luck! We’ve chatted to bathroom experts to bring you five of our favourite trends for 2024…

Wabi-sabi

What is wabi-sabi? “A muted luxe look that is described as ‘appreciating beauty that is “imperfect, impermanent and incomplete” in nature,” explains Andy Oakman, head of bathroom manufacturer and lead design consultant at Clearwater Interiors. “A simplistic approach to design and architecture that embraces the unique qualities found in natural materials giving a tactile and organic touch to interiors.”

How can you embrace this look in your bathroom? Think wood furniture, concrete surfaces and basins, imperfect tiles and linen textiles. As for the colour palette, opt for nature-inspired shades with plenty of stone greys and leafy greens, and matt finishes rather than gloss.

Zellige tiles

Moving onto tile trends, authentic Moroccan zellige tiles continue to be a staple bathroom choice in 2024. Thanks to the charming irregularities in their shape and glaze, these square solutions are ideal for welcoming texture into your space. Available in a myriad of colours, you can get creative and achieve a dreamy backdrop in your shower or vanity area.

Curves and flutes

The experts at bathroom manufacturer Roca predict we are going to be drawn to rounded shapes rather than sharp angles. This includes furniture, sanitaryware, LED mirrors, brassware and decorative elements. From rounded double-ended baths that steal the spotlight and organically shaped basins to circular mirrors and lighting, opt for solutions with curved edges for a softer look.

Over the last few years, we’ve been mesmerised by fluting detailing. It’s made its way into every room – from kitchen islands and bedroom panelling to bathroom furniture. If you are a fan of this tactile trend, rest assured it’s not going anywhere in 2024. Why not add texture to your bathroom through reeded wall panelling, a fluted bath or basin, and ribbed glass storage units?

Playful bathroom tile patterns

One bathroom trend for 2024 I am particularly excited about is daring walls and floors. Think striped walk-in showers, bold feature walls or timeless chequerboard-style floors. “Tiling is a fantastic way of channelling creativity through pattern,” says Molly Woodward-More, creative director at Stone Superstore. “Graphic motifs, or geometric shapes leave room for ultimate customisation. Consider using alternating-coloured tiles to create a striped or chequerboard effect for a nostalgic 60’s inspired style or look at floral patterns for a vintage revival.”

If you’re looking to embrace pattern in your bathroom, but want to stay away from colour and trend-led designs, why not go for the mix-and-match chequerboard style? “The checkerboard floor has a long history, but used with modern colour palettes, it is a great way of bringing the two periods together. They are versatile and can work in most spaces, from cloakrooms to larger bathrooms,” advises Barrie Cutchie, design director at BC Designs.

Terracotta tones

Pantone has announced its Colour of the Year for 2024 – Peach Fuzz – which means you can expect to see more of this luscious shade in interior design. But what’s not to love? It’s an uplifting colour, promoting positivity, so it is ideal for bathrooms.

Think terracotta-coloured concrete basins, peach storage units, pastel glazed tiles and burnt orange paint. This rich shade pairs well with wall plaster or tadelakt for an unfinished look, matt black accents and creamy, buttery neutrals.

What’s more, “peachy, coral hues are set for a revival as WGSN predicted ‘Apricot Crush’ as its Colour of the Year for 2024,” says Ronke Ugbaja, leader and product manager at Lixil Emena and Grohe UK. “Offering a muted, yet warming tone, peach terracotta is the perfect antidote to the previously seen cold, sterile white bathrooms. It’s warming and inviting and works perfectly across tiles, ceramics, paint, textiles, and glass. This colour also feels restorative which is ideal for a bathroom where personal health and wellness are pivotal,” she says.
