Brass seems to have found its way into our hearts and minds this issue. I’m possibly showing my age here, but I’m finding myself humming Brass in Pocket by the Pretenders on repeat!
Our stunning cover home features an incredibly striking design by Sola Kitchens. From the bar stools to the taps and the hammered brass surface of the island, it’s simply awash in this material.
All about brass
You’ll also spot BC Designs’ bold brass bathtub, which glistens against a deep blue patterned wallpaper by Lust Home. Meanwhile, the kitchen designed by The Wood Works featuring Westin’s brass-covered extractor is another example of this versatile metal. And, in Material of the Month – yes, you’ve guessed it – we look at the popularity and uses of brass in all its glory.
And, in Material of the Month writer Louise Nevin, who recalls her childhood baths in an old claw-footed tub with glowing brass taps reveals her utter dismay when they were replaced with shiny chrome. She’s delighted to discover that the allure of this splendid metal has bounced back and brass is very definitely having a moment.
For the deco feature, Irina looks at pantry designs and she’s found lots of clever and ingenious solutions for your home. One of my favourites is the sleek black design by Roundhouse with Silestone’s Calacatta Gold worksurface. It’s sleek, restrained and naturally has space for everything. I think life would be a lot more fantastic (and organised) if only my kitchen was big enough!
The story of Graham & Green
And in How It Started, this issue Vicki chats with Jamie Graham of home décor and furniture brand Graham & Green, who is the founder’s son, and discovers the secrets behind this iconic interior design store that’s been a staple of Notting Hill’s yummy mummies for decades. Have to say I’m a big fan.

For The Last Word, I chat with Tom and Annie Revill, the design duo behind Plank Hardware, who set up their business when they couldn’t find suitable fittings for their home. Recently, they hooked up with B&Q with a large diffusion range and, unsurprisingly, their brass fittings are proving to be best sellers!
Real homes
And, finally, I travel to Brixton, where I catch up with Claudine Murphy, the interior designer and owner of a charming home that she shares with her boyfriend and beloved cat. It’s beautifully calm and pared back – nothing feels extra or unnecessary – with small touches really enhancing the design. I especially love the green-painted window and Nasturtium wallpaper by Lake August in her very chic office.
