Exploring industry events is one of my favourite ways of discovering the latest launches and trends. So, on the hunt for new ideas, I trailed through Clerkenwell Design Week â a hub for all things interiors. Grab yourself a cuppa and let me tell you all about them…
Every May, Clerkenwell is the centre point of interior design, with brands and showrooms exhibiting their latest collections and collaborations. This year, I was particularly blown away by the bathroom ideas which boasted plenty of creativity.
Think new tap designs with motorbike-inspired handles and intricate hand-poured tiles. I’ve also spotted a move towards metallic finishes â from brassware to bathroom basins (yes, really) â with gold and bronze being leaders. And, in terms of surfaces, marble-inspired patterns continue to be a popular choice.
Ready to discover new bathroom ideas? Here is my lowdown on the latest products, set to inspire your project…
Chunky taps
The secret of a great bathroom design is hidden in the details. Gessi has put its latest brassware collections on full display in its Clerkenwell showroom, and I was immediately drawn to the Ventaglio tap.
Crafted from a solid block of metal with a brushed finish, it has a robust appearance, which adds to its opulent allure – even simply turning on the tap feels luxurious. This design is sleek and elegant, making it the perfect addition to a modern bathroom.
Intriguing bathroom tiles
Tile brand Bert & May has collaborated with Henry Holland Studio to launch the new Pour collection, a nod to Nerikomi ceramic techniques.
What is the art of Nerikomi, I hear you ask? It is a Japanese type of clay work, done by stacking layers of different colours of clay together to achieve a beautiful organic pattern. The range is comprised of two designs â a hand-poured and a glazed tile, which are available in four earthy shades and different shapes.
Adorned with organic swirls, using the new solutions, you can achieve a statement walk-in shower or elevate the wall behind your vanity area, for example. Ready to let your creativity flow?
A masculine touch
Want to add a dash of modern edge to your basin area? Graff has drawn inspiration from the iconic Harley-Davidson motorbikes for its new brassware range. Some taps display subtle knurling while others feature circular knobs that emulate the look of a spoked wheel.
In terms of finishes, matt gunmetal grey oozes masculine charm and is ideal for an industrial-style bathroom. For a luxurious look, opt for gleaming gold. To let the brassware shine, keep your sanitaryware simple in neutral colourways.
Go for gold
Gold is everywhere in bathroom design at the moment, and we are here for it. Contributing to the growing trend is Rak Ceramics‘ new range of stainless-steel washbasins available in this elegant finish. What’s more, they also display a charming brushed effect.
So, if you’ve been searching for that statement piece to complete your bathroom design, why not go for gold? Finish the look with a matching tap and a stand-out illuminated mirror.
Your bathroom tap, your way
Customisation is high on the wishlist for many homeowners. With Varied Forms‘ taps, you can change up the look of your basin area, simply by mixing and matching different materials to create your dream combination.
The latest bathroom ideas fuse timeless marble and metallic finishes, which could easily be paired with other stone elements to add an earthy yet glamorous feel to the space.
Statement stone
Looking to upgrade your bathroom walls or floors? Neolith has introduced three stunning new colourways â Calacatta Roma, Everest Sunrise, and Cappadocia Sunset â adding to its ever-expanding collection of exquisite surfaces. Embellished with oversized veins, they’re a great solution for injecting elegance and glamour into your ensuite or family bathroom.
Beyond their visual appeal, these slabs focus on achieving a seamless finish. For example, you can clad your vanity unit using these surfaces, which gives it the illusion of being carved from a single block of marble, or create a luxurious backdrop for your bubbly soak or relaxing shower.
Chic bathroom basins
Two iconic designers – Philippe Starck and Christian Werner – have recently joined forces with Duravit to create its latest basin range, which comes with an affordable price tag, too.
The square basin, pictured below, features curved edges and comes in a matt finish so smooth and sumptuous that it feels like velvet! Make it your own by playing with different textures, colourways, and finishes for your taps, bathroom furniture, and decorative elements.
Happy planning!
