10 autumnal decorating ideas I’ve spotted on Instagram

Autumnal decorating ideas

Aaah autumn – it’s my favourite time of the year. Leaves changing colours, pine cones, chestnuts and conkers in the woods, leafy burnt-orange garlands and wreaths welcoming you home, pumpkins sprinkled all around the town and (round my house) unlimited cups of tea – what’s not to love?

Are you an autumn lover, too? Then, it’s the perfect time to decorate your home with earthy-toned linens, pop seasonal-scented candles in your kitchen, bedroom and bathroom, and layer your blankets, throws and cushions to create the ultimate relaxing spot in the evening.

Whether you’ve already visited a farm and picked your lush pumpkins, or it’s right at the top of your to-do list this weekend, I’ve spotted some amazing autumnal decorating ideas to get you inspired and your home ready just in time for Halloween – especially if you’re hosting this year.

So, grab yourself a hot cuppa, light some candles, get cosy on the sofa and let’s take a look at these stylish autumnal decorating ideas…

A warm welcome
Get your front door and entryway ready for welcoming guests for dinners and drinks at home with a colourful wreath – be it a traditional one with stand-out maple leaves, dried flowers and incorporated pine cones and tiny pumpkins, or a more modern approach like @dickson_vintage‘s seasonal-coloured wreath.
Cosy outdoors
Show your garden some love this autumn too, with a proper seasonal-themed set-up. Think oversized pumpkins, leafy garlands and chic candle lanterns. @Theonebespoke transformed their outdoor space into the ideal entertaining spot near the fireplace.
Minimalist tablescape
If you love autumn but want to keep a sleek and simple interior style, choose neutral-toned décor for your dining table like ivory vases, linen table runners, metallic candle holders, natural-textured placemats and white small pumpkins, like @the_cornerhouse_‘s set-up.
All-out on pumpkins
Don’t hold back – spice up your sideboard table or radiator cover with an abundance of pumpkins in different sizes, shapes and colours. Add cinnamon sticks and dried orange and lemon slices to ensure your home smells delicious. Plus, sprinkle a couple candles and tealights to set the mood and pinecones to tie the look together. @Dove_cottage chose a clear glass vase with white berry branches to add dimension.
Dreamy fireplace
Create a focal point in your living room with a grand garland on your mantelpiece that complements your scheme. Go for faux foliage, flower stems and leafy branches – but safety comes first, so make sure you take all the precautions before putting the fire on. For an extra touch of autumnal spirit, place some faux leaves on the floor like @victorianterrace120 did.
Seasonal-themed island
Dress your kitchen worktops in autumnal décor and make the most of your pendant lighting set-up above your island by intertwining it with amber and burgundy leaved branches. @Fayes_homestyle kept it simple with a pared-back style but really effective – I love it.
Rustic mantel
Go for that modern rustic aesthetic with dried pampas grass, reddish brown autumnal foliage and faux fur textures. Clever and practical idea: @houseatnumber30 filled a metal bucket with logs, as well as the console table next to the fireplace, which adds to the cosy feeling.
Neutral love
Sage green is one of the most popular colours this year, and great news – it is predicted to stay this way in 2022 as well. So, for your tablescaping style this autumn, paint your pumpkins in this lush shade and pair them with matching linen napkins, crisp white crockery and jute tablemats. @Holly_lodge_home took the candlesticks to the next level with white berry accents – so chic.
Pared-back styling
If you are lucky to have a fireplace or a wood burning stove, then when you light it up you instantly get that snug feeling. Keep the décor simple with cosy layers and seasonal cushions, and decorate your coffee table with autumnal flowers and pumpkin ornaments, just like @spire.cottage. I don’t know about you, but I am ready to indulge in a hot chocolate looking at this scene.
Moody atmosphere
Set a cosy feeling in your open-plan kitchen-diner with ambient lighting, tall candles and comfy seating. @Ahouselikethis has an industrial-style dining set with a spacious bench that are complemented perfectly by the matt black candlesticks, deep green accents and subtle pops of orange from the tiny pumpkins.
