Colourful interiors trend: bright details at Clerkenwell Design Week

Colourful interiors made me happy at Clerkenwell Design Week. Which was much-needed, as I did 13,500 steps, and braved blistering heat, hail, downpours, thunder and lightning. And the main thing I discovered was that colourful interiors aren’t going anywhere. Especially the little details – from electrical wires for pendants, to bathroom tiles.

Colourful interiors are back in a big way. I don’t know whether it’s because I was so happy to be out and about again at a design show. However, seeing these bright splashes of colour put a big smile on my face, and made me go ‘wow!’

So: do you love the idea of enjoying colourful interiors that fill your space with bright, positive vibes? Then here are some brilliant ideas I spotted. Let’s go!

a selection of colourful light wires
Pair your Fritz Fryer pendant with one of these colourful wires.
Light up colourful interiors with bright light switches
Who said light switches have to be shiny and white? Certainly not Hamilton or Dowsing & Reynolds. I love the different colours and styles of these light switches. I would legitimately design an entire room around some of these. They’re so different and unique – but subtle as well.
colourful light switches and plug sockets
Which Hamilton light switch or plug would you choose?
These switches are part of Dowsing & Reynolds’ Café Culture Collection.
Bright basins
Ok, I think this is a big trend when it comes to colourful interiors for 2022: I spotted so many gorgeous, colourful basins at the KBB Show 2022, and think they look simply stunning at Clerkenwell too. Don’t they just give of feeling of happiness? (I’d certainly be very happy to have any of these.)
I spotted this stunning display in the West One Bathrooms showroom.
Luminous handles
If you want colourful interiors, but don’t want to go OTT, then why not try a splash of bright kitchen handles? From pastel knobs to fluorescent cup handles, I think these would look stunning with more pared-back cabinetry. Pair with some funky tiles, like the ones below…
Radiant tiles
What better way to realise colourful interiors than to incorporate tiles into your design? Whether you do an entire wall, or perhaps just a splashback or shower enclosure, there’s such a wide variety of styles, looks, patterns and textures – there’s a perfect tile out there for any scheme.
bright tiles are a good way to realise colourful interiors
Abiquiu is a ceramic wall tile range by Domus with a glazed cracquele finish recommended for use on internal walls. They take inspiration from Farrow & Ball colours.
more bright tiles
I spotted these patterned tiles in the Solus showroom.
Brilliant taps
Want to take your colourful sink up a notch? Why not pair it with a bright tap? Go for a similar tone for a cohesive look, or make a statement by going for a totally different palette. For a more subtle look, put your colourful tap with a white basin – but match it with the plug, pipes, or soap holder.
colourful interiors with pastel taps
From bright orange to pastel pink, there’s so many different choices in this Axor range.
Gorgeous lamps
A super-easy way to enjoy colourful interiors is by choosing striking materials and accessories – from throws and rugs, to lamps and lampshades. Pick out colours you’ve used elsewhere, or go completely different for a more out-there vibe.

Obsessed with this lamp from Tatie Lou.

Can’t you just imagine one of these lamps by Kinkatou sitting in you living room? I know I can!
