Get the look: Mediterranean-style kitchen

When you think of the Mediterranean region, what do you picture? Beautiful interiors drenched in blue and white shades, right? It’s one of the easiest design tricks for achieving the Greek chic look.

You can start by swapping your dinnerware with a blue and white patterned set. Then, work your way to fully welcoming this style into your kitchen with the help of indigo-painted cabinets, white dining furniture, and reclaimed tiles.

“The visual delight of this palette adds the traditional Greek look to any home, whether that’s the colour scheme used throughout your whole kitchen décor, or simply with accessories like vases or artwork,” explains Rebecca Snowden, interior style advisor at Furniture And Choice.

You don’t have to stick to light and soft shades of blue to recreate the Greek chic aesthetic in your kitchen. Achieve a moody scheme with the help of darker hues, from indigo to deep midnight blue.

Even better – mix and match different tones to create a bold design. “Darker shades of indigo maintain a sophisticated look, while lighter hues will keep a scheme bright and relaxed,” says Marie Goodwin, designer at Prestigious Textiles.

And, to embrace the Italian interiors style in your kitchen, decorate with sun-kissed shades of orange, zesty yellow, and nature-inspired greens.

Moving onto tiles, the Mediterranean countries are known for their bold, colourful, and patterned tiles. So, if you’ve been looking to swap your wall and floor coverings, this is a great opportunity.

You can add a subtle nod to the Mediterranean-inspired interiors with plain tiles in gelato and sorbet-inspired hues, or tactile terracotta. “Embrace tiles in shades of soft seaside blue or the earthy tones of dark red and deep terracotta, all colours which are sure to evoke feelings of the beautiful sunny Greek Isles,” recommends Harriet Goodacre, brand communications manager and sTile consultant at Topps Tiles.

But if you want to fully embrace this sunny look, go all-out with heavily patterned decorative tiles. “You could consider patchwork-style patterned tiles for a fresh take on the trend that will create a statement floor or wall,” explains Harriet.

Italian-style dining

Confession time – I have an obsession with citrus-themed crockery and patterned textiles at the moment. The quirkier the better. I’ve already bought some lemon-shaped side plates, a matching fruit basket, and yellow tea towels.

If you, like me, love fun crockery, then liven up your summer tablescapes with the help of colourful plates and bowls inspired by the Amalfi coast. To complete your Italian interiors look, add braided placemats, vibrant glassware, and patterned textiles, which remind you of holidays by the sea.

For the finishing touches, add seasonal flowers in organically-shaped vases and light coral candlesticks. All there’s left to do is bring out delicious antipasti on patterned platters and icy Bellinis – buon appetito!
