A professional-style cooktop will not only look good but will give you more flexibility than a standard hob, too. It allows you to mix and match cooking styles with induction zones, gas burners and hot plates.

Contemporary-style range cookers include flexible cooktops and two or three ovens with matching hoods in a colour to suit your decor, making them a showstopper appliance in any sized kitchen.

Good to know

Many statement appliances steal the show with super-sized dimensions, with some range cookers and cooktops as large as 120cm. Professional-style fridge-freezers can be over a metre wide! Check with your supplier about any extra charges that may be incurred for delivery of the more substantial appliances and plan for installation requirements with your kitchen designer as you may have to adapt the layout.

Thinking about choosing a bespoke colour? Then it’s a good idea to request samples so you can be sure it’s the right one for your kitchen.

Buying tips

Having enough fridge space is a must if you’re a regular baker, so it’s worth taking time to find the right size and model that will suit your needs. A wide fridge-freezer, with double doors and height-adjustable shelves, will make it easy to store any bigger showstopper bakes. Plus, it will provide more capacity to store all the groceries as well.

If you’re looking for a retro vibe, there are more brands now that offer fridge-freezers in a range of colours and shades. Apart from good looks, they come with high-tech functionality too.

The latest designs

There’s a large range of colour options, metallic finishes and materials such as stainless steel and black glass. Extraction units are now a statement feature in a kitchen design, with industrial-style frames and dimensions up to 180cm wide.

Gas or induction cooktop control knobs can be inset into the work surface for a more architectural look. What’s more, they can be personalised in a sleek finish and colour of your choice.

Keep in mind

When choosing a statement kitchen appliance, take time to think about why you need it, how it will be used, and its long-term benefits. Just like you would when buying a substantial piece of furniture or choosing an interior style for your home, discuss every detail with your kitchen designer before purchasing to ensure the size, finishes and colours will fit your décor.

And remember, lead times for delivery may well be longer. Many of these statement appliances are made to order and bespoke to your specifications.

What will it cost?

A statement kitchen appliance is probably going to be an expensive investment, but these types of appliances are known for their high-quality materials and reliable performance, so they are meant to last a lifetime. Expect to pay between £2000 and £3000 for a suspended ceiling hood or the latest downdraft extractor.

Flexible cooktops in bespoke configurations will be £5000 to £6000, and range cooker prices range from £12,000 to £15,000+ for a colour of your choice.

If you want to add a bit of glamour to your wet zone, a 3-in-1 boiling tap in a gold finish will cost around £800.
