Go big with these bold and beautiful butler sinks

butler sinks

The timeless butler sink is ideal for upgrading your kitchen and boosting its practicality factor.

Dating back to 17th century London, the butler sink was originally made from fireclay, without an overflow, and it was used for various tasks, such as preparing food or washing clothes. Also known as Belfast or farmhouse, it is now available in a wide range of materials, from marble to concrete, sizes and styles. For example, some of the latest solutions are adorned with fluting – yes, please!

With plenty of space to wash fruits, vegetables or dishes, this sink is ideal for family living or a keen host. But keep in mind that you can’t simply fit a butler sink into your existing cabinetry, so it’s best to consider purchasing one at the planning stage of your new kitchen or utility room. Its charming apron front dictates the type of unit you can have underneath, so it’s a good idea to chat with your designer. Click here for more butler sink buying tips.

Which option is the right one for your kitchen?

Start by thinking about the type of kitchen style you want to achieve. Do you want a traditional look or a more modern aesthetic? The classic white, ceramic butler sink oozes rustic charm, so it complements a farmhouse scheme best. However, if you love the industrial look or prefer a glamorous twist, why not opt for sleek stainless steel, veiny marble, shiny gold or cool concrete?

In terms of sizing, you can choose a deep, single bowl or a large double sink, depending on the size of your kitchen and your needs. With a grand design, washing large pots and pans is no longer a struggle.
