These dark red kitchen ideas will steal your heart

Are you in the market for a new kitchen? Here is why you should embrace dark reds and purples for your redesign…

Red is probably my favourite trend, and the colour I’d choose for my cabinetry if I was redoing my kitchen in 2025 – statement, unique and surprisingly versatile.

Stacey Cobley, senior designer at Harvey Jones, agrees with me. “Red is having its moment. We’re seeing bolder colour choices that ooze warmth and playfulness. Blood red is the perfect shade to invite this feeling to your kitchen.” She explains, “Try replacing cooler tones with this deep colour to create a space that emanates a cosy, retro-inspired vibe while seamlessly blending comfort and style; the more the better.”

Al Bruce, founder of Olive & Barr, adds: “One colour frequently disregarded in the kitchen is red, due to its fiery nature, however, red comes in an array of different shades and, when chosen correctly, can bring joy and warmth to a space.”

Deep purples, burgundies and even dark pinks will also be popular this year in kitchen design. “2024 was the year of taupe and terracotta, which are still lovely ways of bringing in warmth. In 2025, the colours will be more “outspoken” yet still muted,” says Herringbone House director and designer, William Durrant. “Golden, creamy and muted tones of red will create a space that feels cosy in any season.”
