Cottagecore this, castlecore that – well, what about nostalgiacore? Lately, I’ve been drawn to welcoming interiors infused with personal charm, which also carry elements from the past…
The nostalgiacore trend is all about bringing warmth, comfort, and character back into your interiors. It’s taking inspiration from the past, fusing old with new pieces, and ultimately crafting a cosy, lived-in feel with the help of colour, pattern, and texture, as well as timeless furniture, antique finds, and decorative detailing.
You will particularly love this trend if you like giving life to second-hand or older pieces of furniture, like vintage chef’s tables, for example, which you can find at fairs or car boot sales. They are an incredibly multi-functional addition to a kitchen, from allowing easy movement to providing extra worktop space, not to mention the alluring charm they ooze. And, while you’re out and about shopping, why not keep an eye out for old vanity units, too – perfect for injecting some personality into your ensuite.
Also on my radar…
Recently, I took a trip back in time to the 1920s to gather inspiration for my piece on Art Deco bathrooms, so naturally, beautiful brass finishes, luxurious marbles, and lavish sanitaryware are on my radar.
So, if you are planning a bathroom makeover and need help transforming your shower into a statement space or serene oasis, take a look at Konstantina‘s piece on showstopping designs (including the project below with Creative Glass Studio’s gold-hued, Gatsby-esque frame).
With summertime in full bloom, I won’t lie… I am craving a getaway. But until then, I’ll draw some inspiration from these characterful, boutique bedrooms inside quirky manors, luxury London hotels, and cosy cabins. I particularly love this space by SGS Design with charming bobbin bed posts at The Beacon. Browse through our gallery here.
What’s trending?
- With the rise of nostalgiacore, I’ve noticed plates are sneaking off of dining tables and onto kitchen walls. Although the plate wall has come in and out of style over the years, I think it has the potential to be timeless – it comes down to the uniqueness of our homes, personal taste, and the pieces which you select.
- Carrying on the theme of putting your décor out on display, glazed cabinets are a great way to maximise storage while adding character to your space. From turning it into a bar area or a mini library, to keeping your special crockery and glassware organised, there are so many ways to use this type of cupboard.
- I’ve developed a little crush on scalloped edges – be it a curvy headboard, a vintage vanity stool with a swirly frame, or a handcrafted vase. They’re the perfect, playful finishing touch and a great way to add a touch of nostalgiacore to your interiors.
- For all fellow bookworms out there, is there anything better than a plush seating area? Solutions like a chaise or loveseat with pillow-like cushions will make you feel like you’re sinking into cloud-nine comfort.
- Add a touch of luxury to your interiors with brass – whether it’s a wall light with a scalloped pleated linen shade near your bedside or a statement mirror in your dressing room.

Arches are my favourite architectural detail in interior design projects. There is something so enticing about curved entryways such as the one shown in the gorgeous striped shower below. You just have to see what lies behind it…
We spend so much time in our beds, they have to not only feel comfortable but also be characterful. I instantly ‘hearted’ this serene design from across the pond – it’s warm, calming, yet inspiring through its use of colour and texture.
Save this for your next summer party! Henry Holland Studio released its new Glass pitchers, handblown in London and embellished with multicoloured marble patterns – perfect for al fresco gatherings, whether you’re using yours for hydration on a hot day, or something a little bit more spicy… like fruity sangria.
And lastly, if the nostalgiacore trend has won you over, here’s some real-life plate wall inspiration to complete the look. These homeowners mixed and matched quirky ceramics on their kitchen walls, effortlessly drawing you in.
I hope you’re now feeling as inspired as I am to add a touch of ‘nostalgic personality’ to your interiors, too.
Until next time,
Irina
