10 shower design ideas for a showstopping look

Shower designs

How do you make the most out of a small shower enclosure, or add personality to a wetroom? We’ve got all the inspiration you need to get your moodboard going and creativity flowing…

From smoked doors, half stud walls, to vibrant tiles, we’re rounding up some of our favourite design ideas that will help zone your shower and transform it into a statement space or serene oasis.

1. Lustrous checkerboard

Zellige wall tiles will instantly make your shower a focal point, thanks to their effortless shine and tactility. To add a pop of colour and even more character, choose a fun laying pattern, such as this design using Mosaic Factory tiles (£124 per sq m), in a project by Millie Turner Designs.

“Zellige tiles are perfect for creating a statement look because of their artisanal charm and textured appeal,” says Louisa Alice, creative director at Mosaic Factory. “If you have opted for a patterned wall, balance this with a natural floor in a complementary shade to enhance the overall aesthetic.”

Don’t be afraid to mix textures in your shower design, either – here, two different styles of tiles are combined with bronze accents.

2. Half wall goals

To keep your shower area separate from the rest of the bathroom but retain a feeling of openness, consider the idea of half partition walls. “This shower has been designed and created using half walls, with recessed shelves built in,” says Sophie Harrold, designer at Simply Bathrooms (Surrey).

“This keeps toiletries hidden from sight and the floor area clear, while the top half uses fluted glass to allow light to flood the shower area, but also provides a degree of privacy for anyone using it.” Moreover, the herringbone flooring makes the area extra-cosy.

3. Smokey shower screens

Creating a private shower zone in a compact bathroom can be tricky. One solution is to incorporate a smoked glass door, like in this project by Amy Stoddard Studio.

“This downstairs WC doubles as a guest bathroom on the odd occasion the owners have friends to stay. To ‘hide’ the shower area, we chose smoked glass doors by Majestic Showers – when closed, they help give the feeling of a WC,” says creative director Amy.

4. Modernist haven

In this minimalist, modernist bathroom by Day True, form follows function. “The shower enclosure includes a niche for storage, a frameless glass panel to enhance openness, and large-format, matt-finish porcelain tiles to soften the scheme – these are grouted for a ‘sueded’ cement effect,” says Hayley Robson, creative director.

To copy the look, swap bulky enclosures for a frameless or semi-frameless partition, add black fixtures for contrast, and a wall-mounted rain shower for an immersive feel.

5. Turkish delight

Bring some Mediterranean charm into your shower by incorporating Turkish-style tiling in bright, intricate patterns, sure to make the zone pop – like in this compact enclosure, where the handmade Turkish ceramic tiles by Otto Tiles & Design cover the walls and also the side of a practical mini seat.

“We love blending different materials and styles when designing spaces for our clients who come from various backgrounds,” says Omar Bhatti, founder and design director of Space Shack. “The contrasting effect of the traditional Turkish tiles with the contemporary microcement floor gives this shower a calm, elevated feel.”

6. Twice as good

Running late in the morning? A ‘his and hers’ shower, all wrapped into one double design, can save you time and space. In ABI Interiors’ Villa Pearl project, the shower echoes a plush hotel suite, with all brassware coming in pairs, and with a skylight flooding the room with natural light.

“Enveloped in travertine and accented with brushed brass, this ensuite is a tranquil escape that channels Mediterranean luxury,” adds Luli Farrell, co-founder of ABI Interiors. “Every element works in harmony to ground the body and soothe the mind.”

7. On our feet

A freestanding enclosure offers plenty of flexibility as it can be placed anywhere within your home to fit your décor (as far as plumbing allows, of course). “This is really useful in period properties, where preparing a wall for a shower enclosure can be expensive and risks compromising the room’s original character,” says James Lentaigne, Drummonds’ managing director.

But apart from anything else, it makes a statement. “Here, the glass enclosure allows light to flow around the room and shows off the interior from within,” adds James.

8. Tranquil shower

To create a five-star hotel feel in your shower, choose light-coloured tiles, brushed brass details, and a rainfall showerhead. In this design by Ripples, the built-in bench adds to the shower’s spa ambience and comfort.

“Brushed brass fixtures bring warmth, preventing the space from feeling too stark or clinical, and the bespoke, black-framed glass partition creates a high-end look,” says Alfie Guard, senior designer at Ripples Beaconsfield. “To maximise the sense of space in your shower, consider materials that reflect light.”

9. Dazzling shower frames

For a private enclosure that is also beautiful in its own right, tuck your shower in the corner and surround it with a glamorous screen – such as Creative Glass Studio’s gold-hued, Gatsby-esque frame, in this project by Rebecca Hughes Interiors.

“We love incorporating bespoke shower screens,” says creative director Rebecca. “And whereas it was previously common for our clients to desire their showers to be as discreet as possible, we now make them a feature. Here, the half-height wall facilitates the panelling while creating privacy, and the brass links all the sanitaryware and taps together.”

10. Classy warehouse

To give your wetroom an even greater sense of space and a lived-in feel, how about finishing the walls and floor in polished plaster? Eco-friendly and waterproof, it achieves a grout-less look, ideal for wetrooms.

“In our Elm House project, brass finishes add a warm contrast against the blue accents in the door architraves and roman blinds,” says Pia Pelkonen, creative director at Pia Design. The blue, heated towel rail by Tubes Radiatori is playfully shaped like a ladder, enhancing the industrial aesthetic.
