Bathroom curtain ideas to add a splash of personality to your space

Bathroom curtains

There is no doubt that the curtain has made a powerful comeback this year. It’s an incredibly cost-effective way of adding personality to your kitchen, bedroom or bathroom – and it’s practical, too.

But I must admit, when I first started spotting the curtain back in bathrooms, I initially quivered at the thought of it sticking to my arm or leg when showering (there are few feelings I file under the ‘ick’ category and that is certainly one of them!). However, I cannot debate its high efficiency in catching water spray.

What’s more, it’s also a great tool for adding a splash of personality to the space. “Bathrooms tend to be made up of hard surfaces. By adding something softer, the scheme will feel more balanced. A shower curtain chosen to complement the colour palette can add distinctive decoration as well as serve the purpose of containing spills and splashes,” says Robert Whitaker, creative director at Claybrook.

In terms of maintenance, it’s worth keeping in mind that since your shower curtain is exposed to humidity, maintaining it requires more upkeep. “Curtains, particularly fabric ones, may wear out faster than glass doors or other more permanent fixtures. They might need frequent replacement due to mould, mildew or general wear and tear,” advises Charlotte Waters, head of marketing at West One Bathrooms.

What are some other bathroom curtain ideas, beyond the shower-bath area? Vanity skirts are perfect for adding charm and concealing the storage area underneath. Or if you want to take this design idea to the next level, why not replace the door to your ensuite with a stylish, airy curtain?

As for the type of materials you should choose, it’s advisable to opt for hard-wearing fabrics such as linen and cotton, or non-toxic solutions for your shower area. Now, are you ready to pull the curtain on your creativity? Scroll down to browse through our inspiration gallery…
