Summer-ready interiors: cool bedrooms, barbecues, and more

Summer interiors

After writing especially summery features recently, from ways to keep your bedroom cool to barbecue buying tips, I’m now in full summer mode.

Call me hopeful, but I fully expect a proper summer this year in the UK; after all, it’s the weather forecasts predicting a high chance of this actually happening. So, what better time to get your home ready for balmy days than now? Here’s just some of the summery content I’ve been working on recently…

Need help keeping your home cool this summer?

Starting in the bedroom, to avoid tossing and turning at night, I asked the experts for their top tips on keeping your space nice and cool. And I’ve learnt that there is a whole host of elements contributing to a restful night’s sleep – from window dressing (black-out curtains will be your best friend), air quality, to the mattress and bed linen. The materials you opt for are also equally important, so prioritise natural fabrics.

Vent holes

While we’re on the topic of kitchens, I loved Georgina‘s piece on the rise of decorative ventilation holes in cabinetry. Both aesthetically pleasing and incredibly practical, this bespoke feature is meant to prevent moisture build-up and keep food fresh and cool. So, if you’re planning a room refresh and want to include these little cut-outs in your new cabinets, speak to your designer and see what’s possible.

Avocado bathrooms

Moving onto bathrooms, green is back in a big way – from dark emerald, mint, to olive. But one shade in particular has caught Konstantina‘s eye, and that is avocado. Whether you’re looking to introduce a shy pop of colour or want to go all out with basins, toilets, baths, tiles, and furniture drenched in this shade, browse through her gallery to get inspired.

Summer-ready interiors moodboard

  • Lately, I’ve been drawn to sorbet-inspired paint shades, and I’m seriously considering sprucing up the woodwork in my home with a splash of colour. But there’s one particular shade that’s dominating interiors at the moment: butter yellow. It’s incredibly popular this year, and I must admit I’m pretty fond of it, too. KitchenAid’s latest mixer in this delicious hue is ideal for making a statement in your kitchen.
  • Stripes are not going anywhere just yet, and bedding is the perfect way to embrace this playful pattern in your sleep space this summer.
  • Craving a getaway? Bring the holiday feeling to your home with a pizza oven, speckled glasses, quirky crockery, and chic garden seating solutions.

Spotted on social

One of my favourite ways to look for inspiration, projects and ideas is scrolling through the myriad of posts on Instagram. And one feature I’m particularly into at the moment is the fridge cabinet (watch this space) – this butter yellow design by Blockhouse Build is so chic!

Designed to look like a freestanding piece of furniture or an addition to your existing cabinetry, this feature cleverly conceals your fridge-freezer while offering plenty of aesthetic value.

If you’ve ever wanted to gift your loved one a wholesome keepsake they can cherish forever, Cosa, based in Los Angeles, can stencil handwritten notes onto its café mugs. My collection of coffee cups is currently fighting its way out of my breakfast cupboard, but what harm can one more do? Asking for a friend…

This mustard yellow farmhouse-style design instantly caught my eye. There is something special about homely, lived-in kitchens – from artisan ceramics and antiques passed down through generations decorating open shelves, to well-loved pots and pans and embroidered tea towels hanging from brass rails.

Sometimes, it’s the smallest details that can make the biggest difference in your interiors. Take a look at this charming bedroom with floor-to-ceiling wardrobes, complete with eye-catching scalloped detailing.

I never skip a before-and-after transformation. Here is Toby and Mikey’s new bathroom design adorned with textured tiles, statement marble, classic brass fittings and fixtures, and buttermilk furnishings.

With that said, until the next heatwave hits, I’m off to get my interiors ready for summer!
