How to decorate your home with beautiful burgundy

Burgundy is one of the most exciting hues at the moment. It’s dark, warm and versatile, making it the perfect shade for decorating your kitchen, bedroom or bathroom.

Also known as damson or dark berry, burgundy is ideal for painting an entire room, ceiling included, to evoke that warm, enveloped feel. It also pairs beautifully with a range of other shades and finishes, from warm gold and copper metallics to cooler shades of blue and green.

So, where should you start decorating with burgundy?

Burgundy bedrooms

If you’re shy of committing to colour, you can simply dot pops of plum in your bedroom through soft furnishings such as damson-coloured cushions, and set a moody atmosphere with the help of statement lighting.

“We’re seeing damson being used to create a luxe finish to interiors. Accessories like cushions, rugs and throws are the perfect way to add this colour into a neutral colour base,” says Lucy Mather, interiors expert at Arighi Bianchi

Colourful ideas for your kitchen

From tableware to tiles, burgundy adds warmth and interest to any kitchen design. “With its rich and deep undertones, damson exudes a sense of sophistication and allure that perfectly complements the seasons’ changing landscape,” says Emma Bestley, creative director and co-founder of YesColours.

So, if you dare to go bold, consider burgundy cabinetry and matching appliances for a statement look in your kitchen or dining space. This shade works well in utility and laundry rooms, too, bringing a joyful backdrop to doing chores.

And, lastly, in your bathroom, colourful tiles and natural materials such as red marble are ideal for adding a splash of burgundy to your walls and floors. Elevate your design with statement sanitaryware, and for the finishing touches, opt for brass taps, patterned towels and fluted lights.
