If you are planning a project this year but you’re unsure where to start, rest assured you’re not alone! To help provide some motivation, we’ve chatted with the homeowners behind some of our favourite Instagram renovation accounts.
From grand home extensions to DIY doer-uppers, through social media, we get to find, follow and fall in love with projects across the UK. So, if you’re lacking in the motivation department and need a boost of inspiration to kick-start your own renovation, here is the final piece of our two-part Instagram renovation accounts to follow in 2025 series…
1. @maison.moisie
What were your initial plans for the renovation?
Initially, all we were going to do was remove the mould and rewire the house. However, when we started, we quickly realised the old-fashioned 1920s layout didn’t work for us and it could be a forever home if we tweaked it and extended to open it all up.
What was the inspiration behind the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom designs?
We are currently in the middle of designing these spaces but we’re drawing a lot of inspiration from the hotels we travel to around the world. We want a mix of traditional and modern elements with lots of colour and character while still feeling timeless.
What’s next for your renovation? What can we expect in 2025?
2025 is the year it all comes together – we hope! The extension and main building work were finished at the end of 2024, so now it’s time for the fun stuff that will make it feel like ours. Being a print designer for Liberty London, you can expect a lot of pattern and colour.
2. @from_west_to_walthamstow
What were your initial plans for the renovation?
We wanted to restore our 1899 home back to a more traditional Victorian design in line with the history of the house but with a modern flair. We also wanted to retain the original structure of the house where possible, making a few changes such as removing the chimney breast in the rear room and kitchen, adding a downstairs toilet and renewing the steel joists.
What was the inspiration?
Throughout the house, we plan to use vintage colours such as dark green, blue or burgundy as a nod to the Victorian history of the house. For our bathroom, we wanted a family-friendly space versus the shower room that existed before.
We wanted a functional compact kitchen, adding in bi-fold doors to ensure we would have an indoor-outdoor setup, embracing the benefits of a west-facing garden. We love the bedrooms in the house as we were able to retain to original fireplaces.
What’s next for your renovation?
Now that we have stripped the walls back to brickwork, we will be replastering the interior and installing our family bathroom, allowing us to remove our temporary shower room from our kitchen. The fun then begins with putting paint on the walls and moving our furniture back in. We’re particularly excited to have a sofa as we’ve been sitting on camping chairs for six months.
3. @thebramhallbuild
What were your initial plans for the renovation?
Initially, when we bought the property, it had been left empty for four years, we knew it needed a full renovation to make it safe to live in, and that the kitchen would need to be extended at some point in the future. As soon as the house was rewired and replumbed, and we had a bedroom to live in, we decided to begin the extension – which ended up being a house remodel as it entailed knocking half the house down, then extending and adding a third floor.
What is the inspiration behind the designs?
We are heavily inspired by mixing antique pieces with contemporary styles. We love Bond Design Company and Sophie Paterson.
What’s next for your renovation and what can we expect in 2025?
The porch and entrance are our first real project this year, and we will be working on the middle and bottom floors. We want to break through from the extension into the kitchen and get the last of the messy jobs done, so we can finally start working on our kitchen.
We’ve spent so many years building a house, hopefully, this will be the year we can start turning it into a home.
4. @townhouse_era
What were your initial plans for the renovation?
At 23, just a year into post-grad life, my budget was extremely limited. The plan was to focus on the kitchen and bathroom, living with the rest until I could afford to update it. However, as we started tearing things down, the more it made sense to renovate as much as possible while I wasn’t living there. So, what started as a three-month plan soon turned into a full-house renovation.
What was the inspiration behind the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom designs?
I wanted to maintain the home’s original charm while reflecting my personality. I like to describe my style as “London townhouse meets Soho Farmhouse… in the Outer Hebrides”. And, I also love to incorporate girly, cottagecore aesthetics, and as a second-hand enthusiast, utilise preloved items where possible.
What can we expect in 2025?
I’m excited to move on to the fun parts – painting, decorating and styling. If the weather in the Outer Hebrides cooperates, I’d love to create a garden filled with florals and greenery – a perfect place to enjoy the rare Hebridean summer evenings.
We’re looking forward to keeping an eye on these Instagram renovation accounts in 2025. Good luck to them, and to you and your project, too!
