Say hello to the September issue of Kitchens Bedrooms & Bathrooms – out now! Inside, you can expect advice on kitchen planning, hotel-style bedrooms, the lowdown on rainfall showers and so much more!
From dealing with decision fatigue and creating distinct zones to splashing out on splashbacks and sorting out seating for your island, this month, we’re bringing you expert advice and abundant inspiration to help you plan your new kitchen.
But first, let me tell you a little bit about my own experience while renovating…
Dealing with decision fatigue while renovating your home
I remember it like it was yesterday: the day I nearly completely lost it over choosing a grout colour for our new bathroom. Light grey, grey, dark grey, nearly black, black, white, off white, brown (who would choose brown for their grout colour!), cream, cashmere… The list of very similar shades seemed endless. And no amount of VR visualisers could help me feel confident in my choice. I had to take a leap of faith, make that decision, and go for it. I felt silly – how could I feel so torn over something so insignificant in the grand scheme of things? “It’s just grout”, I heard myself repeat several times over. And yet, was it ‘just grout’?
Really, I was overwhelmed by the entire remodel of our 1930s doer-upper home. Yes, it’s a good problem to have, but there were moments during the project where I struggled. Too much dust, too much to do, too much money, too many options. What if something went wrong, what if something didn’t look right, what if, what if, what if.
But now, after years of interviewing other renovators, I know this feeling is one shared with many working on their dream home. Although, at the time, I wasn’t aware of what I was suffering from – decision fatigue. If this sounds all too familiar, Irina talks to designers to help give you some comfort and advice on this oh-so-common issue. Once this is all sorted, you can get back to feeling excited about your own renovation, and back to planning.
Design ideas
We have many more features to help you, from looking at the new trend of kitchen splashbacks, all the way to stealing ideas for your very own hotel-inspired bedroom.
And, why not add a rainfall shower to your ensuite, too, to have the ultimate luxury set up? There’s plenty of inspiration for the three most important rooms in your home, right at your fingertips.
Real homes
And, of course, we have some fantastic homes in this issue – I especially love the kitchen of our cover star, author and content creator Louise Boyce (known as @mamastillgotit_ on Instagram). In fact, that island, with its clever end dining section, inspired our feature on islands with seating.
As always, enjoy the issue,
