There’s something so appealing about this bespoke pink kitchen. And it’s not just the eye-catching colour, which could easily allude to wrapped bonbons or strawberry ice cream – its chic design is equally delicious.
When moving into the property, the family of six knew they would need to expand the kitchen and create more storage space, to accommodate the children growing older while making it more suitable for modern living.
“They wanted a large, open-plan space to host memorable moments such as birthday celebrations,” says Callaghan Interiors’ Will O’Callaghan, who managed the project.
Also on the wishlist was for the room to be as clutter-free as possible while blending traditional elements, such as the Shaker-style panelling, with contemporary touches, like the handleless drawers and LED lighting.
Picking the colour
When it came to choosing a colour, homeowner Kelly Casanova decided that playing it safe was not an option. “I didn’t want a bland white kitchen – plus, I love pink,” she says. “In my old house, we had a pale pink front door and, having seen a pink kitchen on Instagram, I was emboldened to go for it. I wanted something soft as a counter to my work in news and living in a household with four boys.”
Finding the right shades was the tricky part, but Kelly had a colour consultation with interior designer Niki Mauthner who instantly knew which shades of pink to go for.
The sleek elements
The family were also captivated by the bar unit featured in Callaghan Interiors’ Twickenham showroom. “When I first saw it, I fell in love with the fluted glass used in a bar cupboard, so we had to have one in our kitchen. I am still ecstatic every time I see it – it’s so pretty with the lights on,” says Kelly.
But the sleek elements don’t stop there. The Shaker-style kitchen cabinetry features Gola profiles that perfectly match the colour of the island and the main run, offering a practical way of opening drawers and cupboards while maintaining a minimalistic, handleless look.
As for the family’s thoughts when they saw the new kitchen? “They weren’t sure how they’d fill all their drawers,” jokes Will. Kelly is especially fond of the bi-folding hidden worktop and storage space; she says it “hides a multitude of sins from a household of organised chaos”.
