Do you want to feel rejuvenated every time you step into your bathroom? These whimsical walk-in shower ideas might be just what you need.
So, to spark your creativity and help you achieve your dream space, we’re looking at six daring walk-in shower ideas and talking to the designers behind them…
1. Walk-in shower ideas adorned with patterns
The chequerboard pattern has taken over our interiors â from flooring to soft furnishings. Why not welcome it into your walk-in shower with intricate geometric shapes alongside playful gingham motifs. Opt for complementing shades to achieve a truly unique look.
âThe designers embraced a variety of patterns while adhering to an earthy colour palette, which achieves a harmonious look for this colourful enclosure,â explains Louise Ashdown, head of design at West One Bathrooms. âThe juxtaposition of the chequerboard and tear-drop tiles enhances the overall aesthetic and complements the gingham waterproof wallpaper. The steel-framed shower panel adds an industrial touch that seamlessly combines with a sense of comfort,â she adds.
2. Walk-in shower drenched in colour
Create a statement look in your walk-in shower by decorating the walls with vibrant, single-tone tiles. Add interest with contrasting grout, slim, dark borders and a bold flooring choice.
âThese elongated Loki Pink Gloss Ceramic brick tiles, ÂŁ65.76 per sq m, allow the strong pink tones to feel elegant, while the lustrous glaze cleverly bounces light around the narrow shower, making it feel more spacious,â says Louisa Morgan, creative director at Mandarin Stone. âThe horizontal black Paintbox Ebony Gloss Ceramic Pencil tiles, ÂŁ10.74 each, break the strong vertical lines and perfectly pair with the Chaplin Spiro Matt Porcelain patterned floor tiles, which cost ÂŁ41.96 per sq m.â
3. Stylish stripes
âStriped tile designs have followed on from the chequerboard revival as a fun, yet smart, alternative to using two colours to create clean, classic designs,â says Louisa Alice, creative director at Mosaic Factory. In this scheme, green and white zellige tiles are laid out in a stripe pattern on the floor and one wall of the walk-in shower.
This design trick draws the eye to the wet area and enhances the feeling of space. âThe impact of stripes in this space is so strong because it fills it seamlessly,â advises interior designer Lizzie Green. âIf you go for a stripe, think about what the line of sight will be and work from there. Go for contrasting shades, but keep it harmonious so it’s calming and restful.
4. Black and white design
We love this sophisticated walk-in shower scheme â from the monochrome marble wall tiles to the classic gold brassware. Laura Parkinson, director at interior design studio Palmer & Stone, shares how the design came together:
âOriginally this area had a tiny, battered, cast-iron bath, so we removed it and used the whole width of the room to create the shower enclosure,â she says. âWe knew that using a glazed door or a traditional shower cubicle would compromise the available area, so we created a bespoke enclosure using built-in pillars. We added a raised ledge, tiled in the same marble as the floor, to keep the water inside. The floor and wall tiles feature various marbles, which set off the patina of the unlacquered brass beautifully.â
5. Walk-in shower ideas for a boutique hotel feel
Do you prefer a more opulent look? Get inspiration from this stylish bathroom, which oozes nostalgia. The blush-pink tiles, dark- bronze brassware and classic marble sink create the perfect backdrop for getting ready in the morning and recharging in the evening.
âThe master bathroom was an important focus in this Victorian house renovation,â says interior designer Anouska Tamony. âI worked with the client on a hotel-style feel, reminiscent of Deco-era New York, pairing candy-pink metro tiles with classic, aged-brass fittings from luxury bathroom manufacturer Drummonds.â
The shower takes centre stage, giving a timeless aesthetic to the space, while the Calacatta marble vanity basin adds a touch of glamour and luxury.
6. Tranquil getaway
A chic, curved entrance is a great alternative to the classic shower panel. This is a perfect way of adding wow factor to your bathroom. Holly Vaughan, director at construction and design company Vaughan Design & Development, tells us more about this striking showerâs design:
âWe went for a subtle palette of pastels and curved silhouettes to create a soft and feminine, yet grown-up, space. We wanted to see the zellige tiles in the shower space and played with the scale of these using a band of brick-style tiles among the square designs. The pinky-brown marble and brass tones of the tapware add warmth and we kept the look playful with an Ottoline blind, a rattan ceiling light and some decorative plates on the wall.â
