Looking to upgrade your home just in time for spring? Well, look no further because I went to design-led trade show Top Drawer to take a peek at the stunning Spring/Summer 2022 collections.
With a hot cup of coffee in one hand, and trying to hold myself together with the other – yes, it was still very windy – I made my way to Olympia London, the interiors haven this February, to report back to you the latest homeware trends and brands – the excitement definitely overshadowed the gusts of wind that kept trying to sweep me away every minute.
Okay, first, what is Top Drawer, you ask?
Held across all four halls of Olympia London, the trade show is home to established brands as well as upcoming boutique manufacturers. So, whether you’re looking to swap your old lamp shades with handmade designs, want to revive your rooms with patterned cushions, or turn your home into an eco-friendly space with sustainable alternatives, you’re set to discover a wide range of solutions that cater to every style and need at Top Drawer.
Now that I’ve finally made it and secured my badge, are you ready to see what I spotted?
This year, Top Drawer has curated an edit of 1000 top industry brands as well as new names in the heart of London. Exciting. Brimming with contemporary and classic styles for interior accessories, kitchen and dining, furniture and lighting, I truly didn’t know where to start exploring the stands. There was so much to see.
Here are the Spring/Summer 2022 trends to keep on your radar…
Natural shapes
This season, many brands took inspiration from nature for their collections. Think neutral colour palettes, natural materials and rustic finishes. One of my favourites was the Broste Copenhagen Spring/ Summer 2022 collection which features organic shaped solutions, from bedside tables to vases.
Then, I was mesmerised by Spicer Ceramics‘ soap dishes handcrafted in Scotland, inspired by the organic shapes and textures of the rocks found by founder Hannah Spicer on the Scottish Coast. I loved the organic shapes, unique glazing and stand-out mossy green shade. Imagine these in your cloakroom – lovely.
Wild + Wood showcased their collection of concrete plates, bowls, candleholder, and decor, perfect for adding to the tactile experience in your home and for making a statement when hosting.
Botanical prints
Now, keeping with the same theme – we’ve got the shapes covered, but I’ve also seen lots of prints and designs with nature-inspired motifs, too. Be it the statement cabbage plate and bowl set for your #cottagecore scheme, or cushion and lamp shades in leafy prints. Take a look below…
Pastel colours
Pared-back shades of orange, yellow, pink and lilac were everywhere. If you love colour but don’t dare to go all out, these soft hues are great for transforming your dining set up with crockery from Canvas Home. Their latest collection Procida is inspired by the sun washed plaster houses in Procida, Italy. I can already picture it.
Sea, sun and sand
Terracotta, ocean blue and calming yellow were another combo that won me over, making me look forward to sunny days by the beach. Do you love these colours, too?
Comfort and texture
Table and bed linens, waffle towels and bathrobes and relaxing aromatherapy – another focus this Spring/Summer 2022. Get that effortless chic look in your kitchen, bedroom or bathroom with these natural fibres.
Planet-friendly buys
Want to update up your décor but also care for the planet? I’ve got just what you need. Ilex Studio showcased their avocado and acorn vases where you can turn your seeds into beautiful plants. Plus they’ve also got the new branch candle coated in beeswax – you can even see beautiful tree rings.
Make the switch to kitchen and dining solutions made from recycled materials and waste. For example, LIGA uses materials such as ethically sourced cork, organic unbleached cotton, recycled papers, vegan wax, compostable cloth, bamboo, recycled EVA plastics and ceramics to craft and create their sustainable collections.
Another great find was The Wholeleaf Company who manufacture plates, bowls, trays and cutlery sets out of areca palm leaves. They shed naturally in South India, and the company uses them to create single-use 100% natural and sustainable tableware. If you love picnics, these are right up your street. Plus, they are ovenproof so you can also bake in them.
I hope you got your dose of inspiration to put the finishing touch to your renovation or revamp project.
