And, if you love the less is more approach, the quiet luxury trend is on the rise.

Let’s explore four of our favourite AW23 interiors trends…

Rich navy

When September rolls around, we tend to naturally lean towards darker, more comforting hues. We’re leaving bright, ocean tones behind and we’re embracing deeper shades of rich navy and royal blue.

These shades are timeless and complement a range of kitchen styles, from classic to contemporary. Brass finishes work particularly well with rich navy – think aged taps, golden handles and polished light fixtures. Marble surfaces and white Butler sinks are ideal for finishing this look.

As for living and entertaining spaces, patterned lampshades placed next to striped, chunky furniture, along with folk-inspired décor can help you achieve a sophisticated scheme.

Browns are making a comeback this AW23 season

Hear us out – if you’re thinking about the brown shades of the 1970s, don’t. We’re talking creamy colours you want to wrap your entire home in. From dark espresso and deep chocolate to luxurious tan and roasted chestnut, these tones are synonymous with comfort and cosiness.

These moody shades are the ideal backdrop for both a bubbly soak and a relaxing night’s sleep. Welcome browns through painted tubs, clay-coloured pedestal basins, textured towels and tufted rugs in your master suite.

This September, paint company Little Greene is launching a new colour palette titled Sweet Treats, resurrecting the beauty of browns. Picture neutral shades of honey, caramel and chocolate – delicious, right? “These cosy, versatile neutrals are perfect for creating captivating, indulgent and inviting spaces,” says Ruth Mottershead, creative director at Little Greene.

“The rich and indulgent mid brown ‘Affogato’ from the Sweet Treats collection perfectly combines the rich warmth of coffee with the gentle sweetness of vanilla hues to create a cocooning and comforting colour for a dining room, pair with dark brown Chocolate Colour or soft, off black Lamp Black to create a captivating, sophisticated scheme,” says Ruth.

Chequered walls and floors

The chequered tile style is a chic way of giving your kitchen or bathroom a bit of TLC. And this mix and match of square, monochrome tiles is claiming its spot as one of the popular trends this year.

Are you updating a Victorian house? You could opt for rustic chequerboard flooring that looks as if it has aged with the property. Or why not choose marble tiles with striking veining to put a glam twist on your kitchen or bathroom?

However, we’re not only focusing on floors this season. We’re going all out and splashing this tile pattern on the walls, too.

Black and white is a classic choice, but we particularly love how good dark red looks when paired with off-white. Play around with different colour palettes to find the dream combination that best suits your scheme.

The quiet luxury trend

Last but definitely not least, this AW23 season, less is more. Pare back your scheme and focus on the quality of materials and fabrics. Rather than adding a large quantity of pieces and décor in your kitchen, bedroom or bathroom, opt for timeless products that will last you for years. This could be a chic coffee table with a marble top, handcrafted armchairs or artisan decorations, for example.

If you love neutrals, this AW23 interiors trend is for you. But how can you take it up a notch? “Elevate a neutral scheme with layers of texture and a captivating base colour that’s timelessly stylish. Understated and refined, this calming look is oh-so-subtle but never boring,” advises Helen Shaw, director of international marketing at Benjamin Moore. “Dark woods, tactile bouclé textiles and sleek stone surfaces such as marble and quartz complete this luxurious look.”
