Summer feeling at home on your wishlist? Here’s how to get it

Warm weather and sunshine may come and go, but the right décor can turn your kitchen, bedroom or bathroom into the perfect summer destination, even if you can’t go on holiday this summer? If a staycation is the order of the day, I propose we go all-out on house plants, colourful accents and rattan accessories. The more rattan, the better (I might be a bit obsessed at this point). From colourful shades of pink and orange to airy textures such as linen and chiffon, here are my top 10 ways we can all get the summer feeling in our homes.

A colourful bath
What screams summer more that bright colours? Colour in the bathroom is big news right now, so for a freestanding bath in a vibrant shade to liven up your space like this pink one from Victoria + Albert Baths. If you already have a roll top bath, a great way to save on your budget but still have a chic aesthetic is to paint it yourself – make sure you do your research before to check if your bathtub’s material is compatible with paint.

Summer-inspired bedding
Be it embroidered with bold patterns or in a colour-block design, summer-inspired bedding will definitely put a smile on your face. The options are endless, from oversized green tropical leaves to subtle botanical prints. Choose bedding in your favourite colours and go for airy textures and good quality, breathable and natural materials.

Natural accessories
Rattan: I love it. I’ve seen mirrors, bar stools, storage units, accessories of all sorts, and bed frames that send my imagination straight on a tropical island. Create a cosy reading nook with this black rattan chair from Ella James – comfy and stylish. You can also try other natural textures, such as cane and wicker for a similar look.

Bright dinnerware
Colourful plates and bowls, embossed glasses, spotted coffee cups & tea mugs, bamboo handle cutlery and rattan charger plates – up your summer tablescaping skills with bright dinnerware. Fresh Greek salads and roasted vegetables on a fiery grill go hand-in-hand with this beautiful hand glazed dinnerware from Cox & Cox, right?

Light textures
During summer, the weather in the UK can quickly get too chilly or too hot. So, for those in-between moments, a linen throw will keep your temperature just right when relaxing on the couch or enjoying a glass of something chilled in the garden.

Seaside décor
If you’ve stopped scrolling on Instagram to take a closer look at this gorgeous shell vase, like myself, but didn’t know where it’s from, I’m here to tell you that you can still find it on Rose & Grey. These peach and terracotta shell vases are bound to bring the beach to your home. Minimal, yet a statement décor item, you can cut fresh flowers from your garden, get some from your local shop or display pampas grass for a bohemian feeling. You can find out here how you can turn your kitchen, bedroom and bathroom into a tropical destination.

Pops of colour
Just by simply adding a pop of colour to your kitchen shelf with some spices and cookbooks or by swapping your work-from-home office chair with a pink accent one, you will instantly get into the summer state of mind. So, brighten your home office spot with a statement lamp and some playful stationary to enjoy this summer season from indoors too.

House plants
Bring a touch of the outdoors in and create a fresh environment in your home. You can create an exotic paradise in your home through house plants by choosing Monstera plants, bamboo trees or tall Kentia palms. Plus, they have lots of benefits apart from giving us that summer feeling indoors – they purify the air, help reduce stress levels and uplift our mood. If you lack the space, then start small with a wall-mounted planter.

Summer scents
To ensure you get the holiday feeling at home, scented candles that remind you of the summer season are a must – at least for me. I love candles that smell like a walk down the beach or a freshly cracked coconut. If you don’t want to go for all of the above and want to keep your home’s décor simple, then a fruity-scented candle will definitely bring the summer feeling in your home.
