As we set off into 2023, many of us will be thinking about those New Year’s resolutions we’re desperately trying to stick to, plus our goals and ambitions for the year.

If yours includes doing improvements to your home, from a new bathroom to planning an extension, we’re here to help.

For our February issue, we’ve asked architects and designers to share their insider knowledge and inspiring projects.

There’s also a very detailed explanation on planning permission – which if you’re planning a project, is vital to know the ins and outs of.

There’s also a handy article in our Project Planner section on how to create a budget.

Planning an extension?

However, if you’re planning on doing any major works to your home right now – in the middle of a cost of living crisis – there’s things you need to know.

Which is why I have spoken to industry experts to get their advice on the current economic situation and what it means for renovating. I hope that it will help you make informed decisions that are right for you and your project.

“Starting a costly renovation job in the midst of an energy and cost of living crisis can be a risky decision. So it’s vital that you take careful and correct steps in order to stay afloat. Ensure during the planning stage that you have factored in every cost from the beginning to completion. This will avoid any nasty surprises presenting themselves when it’s too late to turn back. Make sure you also factor in your energy costs during this time, as the use of heavy tools and machinery for a prolonged period of time may push your energy bills past their limits.”

More than just extensions….

For this issue, we also have one of my favourite trend alerts so far. The theme is big, bold and chunky.

Think cosy sofas, over-sized beds, heavy radiators and statement appliances. Definitely worth considering if you’re renovating this year!

We also have some brilliant features on bedroom and bathroom trends – including the gorgeous brass you can see above. Plus, choosing the right hob for you, and the lowdown on freestanding baths and quartz worktops.

However you read the issue, whether you buy it off the shelf or download it – I hope you enjoy it.
