Black appliances are going to be huge in kitchen design – there, we said it

Wandering around the KBB Show in Birmingham, one thing becomes very clear: no matter which colour is popular, one constant remains. Black. Black is most definitely back.
More specifically though: black appliances.
And why not? They’re sleek, timeless, and go with just about any décor. Plus, the chances of you starting to dislike the colour, or it not matching a new scheme if you want to redecorate, are slim.
From sleek hobs (including a vented gas design, which I got entirely too excited about to) to ovens and more, here is an overview of what I spotted. No stainless-steel kitchen kit in sight…
Black appliances to keep an eye out for
As far as black appliances – or any, really – go, a range cooker might be top of the wishlist for many. This elegant electric design featuring silver detailing caught my eye on the Lacanche stand. Another range cooker – this slightly more compact one, from Ferre, has a single large oven cavity and gas burners instead of an electric cooktop. It stands on legs, which makes it good for smaller kitchens, as seeing the floor below can help create a feeling of space. Black appliances banked together created a sleek look on AEG‘s stand. From a small wine storage unit on the far right to a coffee machine on the left, there was a whole host of options. The matt finish makes it feel even more elegant. Haier showed more glossy finishes on their stands – with the dark detailing, these black appliances are sure to create a cohesive look. Is there anything more tempting than a gleaming, freshly cleaned induction hob? I don’t think so. This one was part of Siemens‘ displays – and I promise I didn’t leave any fingerprints… The other day, we had a team discussion about vented hobs and if we’d ever seen one that uses gas burners – the consensus was that we hadn’t, so imagine my surprise when I stepped onto the Elica stand and spotted this addition to their Nikolatesla range. Where’s the appliance, I hear you ask? Samsung showed its Airdresser in this sleek, matt black finish – it was so unobtrusive I had to walk around the display twice until I realised that yes, there’s an appliance there.
