Trend alert: how to add matt finishes to your home

Matt black kitchen

What do you say – are you in? Here are some tips on how you can welcome matt finishes in your home.

Kitchens

The cabinets

Kitchens seems to be the hotspot for matt finishes, from cabinets and appliances to worktops and tiles. Cabinets can easily transform the entire design of a kitchen so, if you are thinking about renovating your kitchen, choose a unit in a dark shade – perhaps midnight blue or anthracite – in a matt finish. Go for a matt worktop, either in the same shade, white for contrast or wooden for a rustic touch, to tie the look together.

The sink

For a super-cool touch, choose a matt black sink and tap – it will become a statement in your kitchen and I guarantee it will make washing dishes much more enjoyable.

This one from Frontline Bathrooms withstands heat up to 280°C and is made of 80% quartz particles, which protects it against scratches and stains – a great addition to your kitchen.

Choose the Sharduno 150i Quartz kitchen sink & drainer with stainless steel waste in black, £525, from Frontline Bathrooms for a statement look in your kitchen.

Tiles

Update your kitchen by laying matt black square tiles on your splashback. The porcelain Spellbound tiles from Walls and Floors can be used on both walls and floors, in kitchens or bathrooms. It might be worth mentioning that it could make cooking more challenging, as spatters will be more visible – but I think that having a statement splashback is definitely worth it.

Décor

You can always give a quick refresh to your bedroom with décor. Why not add matt black pendant lights on each side of the bed for an industrial touch? You can upcycle old items with a couple coats of paint – for example, you can refresh your house plant pots with some colourful matt emulsion paint.
