Hello October 2021 issue!

Welcome to the October 2021 issue of Kitchens Bedrooms & Bathrooms magazine.

This month I have a question for you: what’s your lockdown signature bake? Did you, like what seemed like thousands of others, perfect a new culinary masterpiece with all that extra time spent at home?

Now that we’re (hopefully) making our way towards post lockdown life, there’s one thing I’m optimistically thinking: I’ll keep up my new-found hobby of bread making. Yes, I jumped on that bandwagon and when confined to my house, I took to the kitchen. I love to cook and it seems I’m certainly not alone.

A recent study from Hillarys found that two in three of us now prefer eating at home rather than going out. From the wave of banana breads seen across social media and sourdough starters being nurtured up and down the country to jams made with homegrown or foraged fruits and hand-shaped pastas with many mouth-watering concoctions, a love of food has hit the nation. And that’s not to mention the surge in demand for restaurant-quality cuisine delivered to your door via the many new pop-up ventures.

During lockdown, my Saturday evenings turned from drinks at the pub and dinner out to pizza, ramen and curry nights in. My cookbook collection grew, my cupboards brimmed with gadgets and my kitchen was well and truly put to the test.

Food and the kitchen go hand in hand after all – whether that’s for perfecting the latest showstopper or entertaining – and so you need a space that suits your cooking style.

In the October 2021 this issue, the team and I are looking at how to redesign your space with exactly that in mind.

During lockdown, my Saturday evenings turned from drinks at the pub and dinner out to pizza, ramen and curry nights in. My cookbook collection grew, my cupboards brimmed with gadgets and my kitchen was well and truly put to the test.

So if you’re the host, baker, aspiring chef or love growing and making your own, follow the tips and ideas to ensure your space can not only handle the heat, but help take your dishes to the next level too. I’m thinking I definitely need to invest in a mixer with a dough hook.

I will admit that while cooking is great, the washing up that comes with it certainly is not. So fear not: we’ve rounded up the latest dishwashers, complete with nifty technology to make this loathsome chore a little bit easier. Yes please.

Of course, there is lots more to delve into in the October 2021 issue: plan your perfect ensuite with our help; make more of your small bedroom with clever solutions to use every inch of space effectively, and prepare for the colder weather and darker nights with our pick of towel warmers and bedside lamps – ideal for when the clocks go back.

As always, enjoy the issue (and the cooking),

Lindsay
