Soy wax candles, essential oil diffusers, scented décor, room sprays – you name it, I’m here for it. When the team and I were chatting about the scents we like for this very blog, I admit I whipped out three candles from behind my laptop. What can I say? I love a scented candle!
What about you? Do you also love walking into a home that smells so delicious you’d want to eat it? Or perhaps relaxing with a lavender oil blend in your diffuser while taking a bath? As a self-confessed fragrance aficionado, I’m pleased to bring you my roundup of the room scents to buy now. And what types are out there. Go on, treat yourself and make time for you…
I personally adore seasonal candles – when the leaves start changing colour, I’m lighting my pumpkin pie candles. You know my home smells like Christmas cookies right when December rolls around, of freshly cut flowers during spring and like the salty sea when it’s summertime.
Home fragrance is ideal for creating a relaxing atmosphere in your home. Pop a clean scent on your kitchen island, add a lavender touch to your bedroom for a good night’s sleep and a fresh scent next to your bath.
Oil blend diffusers
Essential oils are said to help our wellbeing so I am all for using aromatherapy for a joyful state of mind. Peppermint, sweet orange and rosemary essential oils boost productivity and concentration, so they are perfect for your work from home spot. Our editor Lindsay enjoys the NEOM wellbeing pod essential oil diffuser in her home office and the Scent To Destress keeps her tip top (she has read that, don’t worry!). What about one of the newest fragrances added to the collection? It’s a mix of the purest essential oils including neroli, mimosa & lemon and called Scent To Make You Happy – how great does that sound?
Scented candles
Ahh… candles. From glamorous designs to simple and natural packaging, candles can help set the tone of your home depending on the scent you go for. For example, citrus scents like orange peel, lemon zest and grapefruit are known to boost your mood and energise your spirit, while bergamot and lavender can create a sanctuary feeling. Are you a candle lover like our art editor Hannah? Her favourite is the HAV scent from SKANDINAVISK – with notes of salt spray, seaweed, hawthorn and beach rose. I can already hear the waves.
How delicious does this pastel macaroons townhouse candle, £90, from Jo Malone, sound? I. need. it.
Reed diffusers
These diffusers are really handy and such an easy option for filling your home with wonderful scents – from sweet and spicy to fresh and floral. Remember to rotate the sticks once in a while to make sure you get the most of the fragrance. Our sub editor Stefanie‘s go-to home fragrance is the rice milk and cherry blossom reed diffuser from Rituals – perfect for relaxing in the evening.
Pot pourri
The great thing about home fragrance, apart from all the dreamy scents, is that you can use it to decorate your kitchen, bedroom or bathroom, too! Room diffusers and candles come in all shapes and forms, from bold colours to minimal designs. You can go for a stand-out decorative bowl and add cinnamon and baked apple scented pot pourri to add an autumnal feel to your bedroom. Or you can choose a glass tray and spread beautiful scented crystals for a luxurious touch.
