The January issue of Kitchens Bedrooms & Bathrooms is out now and it’s all about sustainable living. Here’s what you can find inside…
This month we’re talking sustainable design and are looking at ways we can make our kitchens and bathrooms more eco-friendly.
Sustainable kitchens
We look at five amazing kitchen projects that feature the latest sustainable cabinetry designs and, Vicki discovers in her buyer’s guide, there are huge changes afoot in kitchen worktops with lots of cool and innovative new materials on the market.
Designer interviews
I also chat to the former PR Georgia Metcalfe, who wanted a French style bed for her 30th birthday and discovered there was a major gap in the market. A twinkle in her eye fast became French Bedroom – created from her two-bed flat in Queens Park, North West London – which today is a thriving business based in Sussex. From humble beginnings, she now designs beds, fabrics, lighting, mirrors and linen and has plans for much more.

Inspirational homes
Our cover home this month is the most incredible project in East London, with cityscape views on one side of the house and Epping Forest on the other. Owners Andrew and Kate compiled a very short hit list of suitable streets in Leytonstone and were delighted to come across a Victorian home that needed a total renovation. They worked with Sara Moody of Shacklewell Architects to help tell their building’s story. The result is a contemporary home that’s been renovated from top to bottom.
Sustainable bathrooms
Our bathrooms are responsible for almost 70 per cent of household water consumption, according to the Energy Saving Trust, which is a scary statistic, but fortunately lots of manufacturers are taking the issue seriously. The next generation of bathrooms will include sustainable solutions such as low-water flushing toilets, recycling showers, water-saving taps and efficient showerheads, and there are many other new products available to help us do our bit.
Healthy bedrooms

Material of the Month: Granite
And, for Material of the Month, I discover more about granite. It’s one of the most hardworking and hardwearing materials available for kitchen worktops, waterfalls, splashbacks, bathroom vanities and even as a bedroom backdrop. It may be one of the most expensive materials, but each slab is completely unique. And, if you take good care of it, then it should last you a lifetime.
